Arm transitioning wonky

Hi,

I have a problem with some of the arm movements of my puppets. When transitioning between two hand positions, it flips the elbow, making the movement seem really weird and annatural. I've attached a video of this. How can I have the puppet transition more naturally beween arm positions?
