Blur Effect Disappearing Depending on Layer/Group

On the character I'm rigging, I have blurred edges to cheek blushes (bitmap art from PS). As independent layers, the blushes are accurate. But I tried to follow Dave's "Stan" character, whose hair is attached to and moves with the nose (inside the Nose group). However, when moving the blush art into the Nose group in PS and then updating in CH, while everything looks as expected in Rig mode, the blurred edges of the artwork disappear in Record mode, leaving a hard edge. I tested out placing the blush in the Left Eye group, and the same effect ocurred.

To further confuse things, the correct blurred edges return when I raise the opacity of the art in CH about 5% or more (it's normally 15%).

I know it's not ideal, but you might need to merge the blur layer with a copy of the skin color and trim the result with hard edges, Like I said, it's not ideal, but it will preserve the feathering of the blurred layer.

It's a smart idea. I've already created a similar skin-colored mask for where the eye white was showing through the tops of my feathered eye shadow.

I just figured out that this is happening no matter where the art is placed. It's happening when the art's independence is turned off--either the crown in CH or the + in PS, makes no difference. Again, nothing looks wrong in Rig mode.
