Can I use XBox Controller to control the character? (As MIDI devices can be used)

Question

Is there an actual way possible to control your whole character or just the triggers, using your XBox or any other windows compatible gaming controller?
Because if we can, that would be extremely cool and easy!

Don't know if it will respond to just using the XBox directly, but I remember seeing a way to convert the XBox signal to midi. Here is what I saw.
