Question

Character Animator Not Recognizing Adobe Media Encoder

I finally deleted an old version of media encoder to free up space. I have the updated version. When I attempt to export a puppet to encoder, character animator suggests that media encoder is not installed. The quick export option would be a work around but I need the alpha layer transparent in order to take the puppet into after effects to interact with the background. Please help!

If you are not keeping older versions (e.g., 2022, 2021, etc.) of Character Animator and Media Encoder around, try uninstalling Character Animator 2023 and Media Encoder 2023, then install Character Animator 2023 again. That should queue the install of Media Encoder 2023, which should hopefully fix issues related to Character Animator finding Media Encoder.

Will I lose all the rigging information for the puppets?

No. Uninstalling the software should not touch your projects (which are located elsewhere, such as in your user Documents folder). It's just removing the app from the Applications folder (on macOS) or the C:\Program Files\ folder (on Windows).

If you are ever asked if you want to remove your existing app preferences, just say no (or the appropriate button to keep your existing preferences).
