Character Animator Running Slow--Spinning

Hi everyone! When I try to rig a character (design is a PSD file), it loads for everything I click on, so it takes a few seconds to do anything... is there any way to fix this? I am running a new(ish) mac and have about 30 GB left, but it does not have the newest update. Thanks!
