Character Animator shuts down right after trying to open a file

Hi there, I came across a strange behaviour of my Character Animator - it would shut down every time I attempted to open a puppet or just a file. Seldom it would open and not crash as long as I didn't switch to the Rig Mode. The problem is very frustrating. Any ideas how to solve this?

Hi there! I've got the solution!

It appeared that my NVidia Graphic Card Settings were the issue. To solve the problem I did this:

1. Open the NVidia Control Panel

2. Go to 3D Settings and choose Manage 3D Settings

3. Choose Programme Settings

4. From the list of programmes choose Character Animator

5. From the Box Below ("Select the preferred graphics processor for this programme") choose Integrated Graphics.

6. Press Apply

And that worked for me.

This was the only thing that allowed the Character Animator to start working again. Was originally running off the NVidia - but something forced it to no longer support it in my case.

You could search the forums, but I think there was a magic trick like holding down ALT or SHIFT during the boot sequence... maybe that was just if the project was corrupt (It would start CH without autoopening the project or something).

I would suggest as soon as you get CH up, in the scene window hold down ALT and click the refresh button (two arrows in a circle) in bottom right of scene panel. That flushes some internal caches. If that does not work, try dropping Dan Tull a message in the forums here. He likes tracking down these sorts of bugs. Just ZIP up the whole project.
