Clipping Mask - Glasses Glare

I am trying to create a clipping mask for some glare on these glasses.

Is this possible? It seems the mask needs to be a solid color and I'm not sure

how to use the clipping mask without being a solid color.

This is one solid gray color shape behind the frames.

My setup here.

How it should look here in Illustrator

I am not quite sure what you are trying to achieve. A clipping mask is to crop according to another shape. Do you just want a transparent layer in front of the eyes? That is, do you really need clipping? Or do you just need a fill area that is semi-transparent?

Having said that, I have no idea if CH supports transparency in a mesh! I have never tried that.

But also note, the clipping mask I think uses *all* following layers under the same parent. So you might need to have “Right Glare” clipped by “Right Glasses Mask” and “Left Glare” under a different parent with “Left Glasses Mask”. I don’t think it will work having Right Glare clipped like that - I think it will be clipped by the left glare *and* the mask.

Are you trying to just draw a diagonal rectangle and clip it by the shape of the glasses? I tend to use layer subtraction instead of clipping in CH. Clipping in CH I use more for moving thens - e.g. is the glare moving on the glass surface?

But clipping does not support transparency - it is a hard clip (show or hide).

Bottom line: not sure I answered your question as I was not 100% sure what you were trying to do.

    Hey alank99101739

Thanks for your help detailed help.

I wanted to have the glare do a parallax move as the head moves back and forth

so I wanted to use the clipping mask to make sure that glare did not go outside

    of the glasses frame.

I might just be able to get away with out the clipping make an make sure the parallax

moment is not too big and the shape stays within the frame.

    Thanks,

    Mike
