Corrupted Character Animator project

Hey all! I’ve been a hardcore user of Ch for years, and just recently ran into this issue. I was trying to import an (admitedly) large photoshop image sequence into Ch to use as a background, and the program crashed and apparently has completely corrupted the character animator file. Whenever I try to open the file I get some sort of “damaged project” popup and no option to do anything else. Even more confusingly, the popup is different every time.

I searched around and it seems like one of the only ways to resolve this is to have someone from the Ch team ‘roll back’ whatever I was doing in the project at the time. Anyone available and able to do that for me? I have hours and hours of work setting up puppets and scenes in this project and would really love not having to do it all over again.

    Hi Jason,

Sorry to hear that. Character Animator projects are normally saved automatically, so a crash during a large import may have left the project in a damaged state.

    A few questions:

    • Which version of Character Animator are you using?

    • What operating system are you running?

    • Do you still have the project folder and .chproj file?

    • Do you have any older backups or saved project versions available?

    • Could you share the exact error message(s) you're seeing when you try to open the project?

The more details you can provide, the easier it will be to determine whether the project may be recoverable or if an Adobe employee needs to take a closer look.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hi @JasonRugg

I could only suggest you to search a bit through the comments in this forum, find some Adobe managers responsible for Ch and message them directly. This should speed up the aswer.

    Warmly, Nataliia
