Cycle layer question...

I'm building a wave and using a cycle layer. I adding to an existing puppet. The existing arm is rigged and dragable. I added a series of arms to create the wave and made them cycle layers. the wave works but the original rigged arm remains while the animation cycles. I've added the original arm to cycle but then the arm is not present until I que the cycle. Any help or suggestions would be great. Oh, and the wave cycle is really fast. How could I smooth this out and slow it? Thank you.

Speed: The cycle layers behavior has a "Advance Every:" property for how fast to play the cycle, so you can change the number of frames before moving to the next position. It defaults to 1 (move forward every frame). Try setting it to 2 or 3.

Hmmm. What I would normally do in that situation is create a swapset with the normal arm and the wave. So you have a group with two child layers, the first is the normal arm, the second is a group with all the cycle layers under it. You then create a swapset with the two child layers so it displays either the normal arm or the cycle layers group. That way you hit a trigger to play the cycle layer, let go of the trigger and it flips back to the normal arm.

You might be able to get the cycle layer to do it... e.g. I am wondering if you could use "Start: Immediately", with "Cycle: Continuously", then put a "Cycle Pause" tag on the first layer (the arm), then set "Continue After: When Triggered". The idea is it starts the cycle but pauses until you hit a trigger. Then if you hit the trigger it will do one wave and stop again. Hmmm, but you probably want several waves? You could duplicate the cycle layers a few times (so it always waves a few times).

Thank you for your help. I'm digging in with your suggestions today. I've also tried building on top of an existing adobe puppet in photoshop to get a better handle on the process and right way to build the structure. I've watched most of the okay Samurai video and they've been a help. Do you recommend and video tutorials? Thanks again for you assistance.
