Help! All Ch files are now zero bytes

Embarrassing post here...

I have a few, pretty complex characters rigged in Character Animator and sometime in the last month or so it appears the files have been either corrupted, disrupted, or lost etc and they all say zero bytes. No other files on my computer had anything happen to them so this is very odd. And honestly heartbreaking as Ive invested many hours of time rigging these characters. Any idea what could have happened or how I could possibly try recovering them? The files in question are in my creative cloud folder, and when I go on the cloud they also say zero bytes.

The .chproj files are always zero bytes. Ch looks for subdirectories relative to where the .chproj files are. So it might still be fine - just trying opening one (double click). Be careful moving them however as you have to move the whole directory tree with them,

yeah, I understand that, but I have tried opening, nothing appears when it opens.

What version of Ch and operating system are you using?

What happens if you create a new project, then add something simple like a New Folder or New Scene, and then quit and relaunch -- does it still show up in the project?

It doesn't make sense that a crash would result in ONLY character animator files being ruined, even if say there was a power surge while character animator was open. Am I wrong to think this? I downloaded Disk Drill but not exactly sure how to use it and dont want to ruin anything else on my computer....
