How do I make a puppet with a saved png without photoshop?

Most puppets in Character Animator are created in layers, with the moveable parts each on their own layer. So far, the best programs for doing this are Photoshop, Illustrator and Fresco. To make a good puppet out of your image you will need to be able to separate the limbs from the rest of the illustration.
