Question

How do I practice character movements without recording them:

I am trying to edit the movements of a character after lip-synching the character to an audio file.  I would like to be able to practice adding movements and gestures BEFORE I actually start recording them.  However, the newly added gestures and actions only appear  when I'm in record mode.  This means that I have to record all my practice attempts, which I do not want to do.

How can I play through my scene and try out different gestures for a character WITHOUT recording those gestures?

Forgive my tardiness, I usually do not participate during the weekend. Normally, I do my recordings in pieces, sometimes recording the audio in Adobe Audition until I'm happy with the input. Then, once I am happy with the audio portion, I am free to make multiple passes focusing just on the hands, the head and so on. Use Timeline>Compute Lip Sync Take From Scene Audio. Remember to disable behaviors that you do not wish to record during play-back by turning off the red dots.

Thanks. It sounds to me then like "record" always has to be activated in order to practice making changes to a scene.  That seemed a bit odd to me, but I guess I can open a separate practice scene and let it fill up with practice takes.  I hesitate to practice with my main scene loaded because I don't like the idea of filling up the timeline with practice takes that I don't want, even if I can delete them.  I'm afraid that I'll end up deleting too much or too little at some point.

So far no replies.  I've done research since, and I still see no way to "practice" movements along with my scene without recording them at the same time.  Maybe I just have to keep recording and undoing record. But that seems a little odd.  That's kind of like having to have hollywood cameras running while you're practicing your lines at home.
