Importing .psd characters into After Effects, loosing resolution

My .psd files of my puppets are 11"x17" at 300dpi.  I need the characters (scenes) to be clear (non pixelated) or full resolution/1080p min. or even 4K

Does the recording in character animator reduce the resolution to fit the screen?  Is it an issue of scaling the puppet down in the Character Animator 'Transform'....

You are thinking about things correctly. if you export a video from CH then CH will scale everything To that resolution. You have to think how well the original image will scale.

For example the thickness of lines matters. I had them too thin to start with so when scaled down they looked bad.

i use illustrator to reduce challenges of scaling. But fundamentally you need to be able to scale the artwork to the final resolution and have it still look good.
