Question

Is my puppet structure layout correct?

Hi

I'm currently setting up a puppet i created in illustrator and am having issues with the walk animation. I've seen various videos of puppets set up in different ways but i've set mine up to avoid duplicating artwork in an effort not to waste memory and cpu (it's already excruciatingly slow and i have a lot of layers and options like different clothing etc). Here's a screen shot, i've expanded some of the layers to give an idea of what is inside:

Does this look ok? I think i had all 5 head views in each of the 3 body profiles before adding the walk animation. When I try to walk left and right it just distorts the frontal view in a really weird way.

Thanks

I noticed that one of your head views is not independent while the others are. It should be consistent. I can't tell what might be causing your puppet to distort while walking, but I know that creating a single puppet that can "do everything" is a challenge and many prefer to rig multiple puppets (one specifically for walking and so on) to get the animation that they want. I am not an expert on the walking behavior, but I'll try to help if I can.

I'll have to check how i've got it in CA but i'm pretty sure i've got them all set the same in there when I get the chance (i'm scared to mess with the art in illustrator now in case the rigging resets). Rigging multiple of the same puppet sounds like a bit of a nightmare to me haha, especially considering how slow it is on my current pc
