Issues with walking puppet

Hello community,

I made my puppet walk but I still have a few problems. I hope you can help!

  1.  On every layer: The hips are making weird things while walking. They are kind of moving up and down.

2. On every layer: The line of the pants is misplaced while walking. Maybe it's the layers structure in Illustrator and the pants and legs need to be arranged differently?

3. On layer „Trikot“: The number 8 is moving up and down.

4. On layer „Weihnachten“: The elements on the shirt are distorted.

Thanks in advance! 🙂

Overhauled puppet: https://shared-assets.adobe.com/link/bcfc2211-f61b-4e8d-71db-a5a866ca6f27

As a bonus, I made it work with Motion Library and Body Tracker. It should also work fine with Walk.

Tips

  • Avoid scattering behaviors to multiple layers. You had Walk behaviors set at Trikot, Party, Date, and Weihnachten layers. Instead, I consolidated behaviors at the top level to just drive the Trikot layer, then let Party, Date, and Weihnachten layers trace the Trikot layer using Leader-Follower
  • Use copy and paste of handles for consistent rigging and speed-up of your workflow across many similar layers. This is especially handy for the Leader-Follower rigging requiring lots of consistent handle naming
  • When you see a part of the puppet stuck like in 3. and 4. of your original post, check if the layer is independent (crowned), and if the layer's attach style is set to "Free," not "Weld"
  • For the crotch line, I would extend that line in the artwork as suggested by @k_oshiro. You may also want to try placing handles tagged "Fixed" to limit the deformation
  • I recommend Motion Library over Walk behavior even for walking motions

Thank You Your DM.

I have analyzed the puppet you made.

Your puppets are complicated and I could not understand how they work well.
Sorry.
But I fixed it as much as I could.
To prevent the crotch line from disappearing
I added a crotch layer with lines below the feet layer.
I also removed the neck tag.
Please see the modified puppet for more details.

Turn off the other puppet's walking behavior feature.

By the way: when you change the walking type, the puppet is making super weird things …
