Learning Cameras

Hello my favorite People,

You guys have kept me moving along with my project. I now have to learn how to use cameras. I created six characters and I have each one walk out separately while being introduced. I animated each character in separate scenes and put them together in after effects. I now want to use cameras to zoom and pan on characters to make it more exciting to watch. I am trying to use the camera in after effect to do this. I have been playing with the null object and camera but am having a lot of trouble getting what I want. I have searched this forum and after effecst forum and you tube but cannot use this camera correctly. Maybe I am not searching correctly. If anyone can point me to an effective tutorial it would help me greatly. Any advice would help me greatly. I know we can do it. HELP!!!

Thanks Gentleman,
Once again I've learned and am able to keep moving forward. My resolve was keyframes. I used zoom and different posistions to get the result I was seeking. I used After Effects. I learned a lot about after effects too. I viewed a lot of tutorials. Once again you guys make this a valuable resource and I can't wait until I know enough to share answers with the forum. A BIG THANK YOU once again. So until the next time I get stuck. Stay safe out here and wash your hands alot.

One neat little trick with AE you will need to remember is to make sure Auto Orient is on when using the camera, and you  will want to make sure the cameras are two node. Not knowing what challenges you are having makes it difficult to offer any direction here, just saying 🙂

I love playing with cameras in AE, and am still trying to master it in CH, but not having the type of success I would like.

Have you tried the cameras in CH? https://youtu.be/8ZdnGazWtq4

Personally I don't think you need to do full AE Camerawork for something like this. I would just make a big comp and then use hold keyframes or zoom in/out to get the effect you're going for - that seems like the simplest approach. I rarely set up AE cameras except for motion-tracked cameras or when I really need to move through 3D spaces.

Yes I think you are correct. This was my first thought. The problem is I am a newbie with this program too. You just gave me something else to look up with the word hold keyframes. I just have to learn how to use them and how to keyframe the zooming as well. Thanks I appreciate the reply.
