Link Triggers To Photoshop Tool Selection?

Is it possible to link triggers to Photoshop tool selections?  I presently don't know Character Animator, but I have a CC account.  I watched a couple videos on triggers and can't figure out can the key triggers work if you have photoshop open?  So if I used 'S' to select the 'Clone Stamp' could I trigger an icon or animation to appear elsewhere on the screen?  What about if I just clicked the stamp tool with my cursor, can that be a trigger too?

I'm willing to learn this software if that is achievable, so your answers will could help me save a lot of time.  Thanks in advance!

I think what ever program has the focus is going to respond to the triggers exclusively. It sounds like you want to have a character animator puppet walk through Photoshop techniques? Perhaps the best way to do that is to record your Photoshop video, use the sound track to determine what actions your puppet will be doing, and then combine the two in After Effects. There are some good video tutorials on how to do that.

I'm hoping to do it live, is the thing.  Thanks for the response!

In that case, you'll want some sort of MIDI controller or some sort of hot key software to send the signals to CH while you're doing your PS.
