Lip Sync with custom mouth cycle?

Is it possible to record a Lip Sync with phonemes comprised of a cycle of 3 layers?

 

I've currently got them as a trigger but I'd rather automate the process than record the trigger myself as sometimes it doesn't pick up my keys.

If I understand you correctly, you want to have a viseme with multiple frames? You should be able to do that by using the Cycle Layers behavior. The Red Monster puppet uses this on the Aa, Uh, (2 frames) and W-Oo (3 frames) visemes.
