Question

Livestream with remote actor?

Had to do a crash course in CA to get a live character to show up in Teams. Got everything wired up and, using NDI, can feed my scene to Teams and control the puppet. Bosses loved it. All good. Now, though, I need a remote person to drive the puppet.

I've done a fair bit of reading and experimenting but haven't gotten it to work. My reading makes it seem possible. I need "Bob" to call in on Teams, then feed his video and audio to Character Animator to control the puppet, then feed that back to Teams to talk to other people on the call as the puppet. Do I have to have him call in on Zoom vs. trying to round-trip? Although then he wouldn't be able to hear them, I'd guess. I had my IT department download NDI and OBS (which was a minor miracle) so I'm hoping that's all that's needed.

Anyone have any advice on making this work? I know next-to-nothing about NDI, even less about OBS, so it's possible I'm just overlooking something obvious.

Would it be possible for you to create a version of the puppet that could be loaded and used in the free starter version of Character Animator? That would allow Bob to download the program and (with your coaching) set up and run the animation from his home location.

Hmmm... that may work. I'm not sure how tech-savvy ol' Bob is, but I'll pitch the idea, see what he says. Thanks for the idea!

Sadly, Bob is not down with that idea and can't come into the building, so I'm back to remote camera/mic. I need him to call into Teams, feed his video to Character Animator to drive the puppet, then feed that back into Teams so other attendees see the puppet instead of his direct camera.
