merging head from 1 psd file and placing it on another body psd file to be used by character animato

I am a newbie with photoshop and character animator.  My goal is to make an animated cartoon for grandkids.

I was trying to take a generated head by characterizer(selected image) and use that on top of an existing walking puppet that I can download.

I am having all kind of movement issues once I do that.  I experimented with the puppet maddy but that puppet seems a little too complex.  Does anybody know of another walking, head turning puppet that is simple and I could use?

Any advice if I should try a different approach?  I wanted to have a realistic image of a child rather than a cartoon looking head.
