Movement for floating head character

My puppet is just a floating talking head.  Ordinarily with characters with bodies, you don't want the head to move freely and independently of the body.  In my case, I DO want the head to be able to move side to side and in all directions.

However, my puppet can only tilt and scale.  I have played with independence settings but nothing seems to work and I'm stuck.  Any advice would be really appreciated.  Thanks!

The puppet can be grabbed here:

Another trick on top of Platty's suggestion if you want head movements on the web cam to move the head is to create a fake body (e.g. a rectangle from head downwards) and then hide the layer (turn off eyeball). If you put a pin in the bottom of the rectangle that will keep it fixed. Set Head Position Strength to 100% and make it independent but attached to top of rectangle and that will give you some side to side movement with just the webcam.

If you want to move around the scene and stay there, then you need to do what platty suggested

It may also work to keep head not independent too, but it might stretch the head a little when it moves. I would try both and see which looks better.

(if head is independent, the size of the body makes no difference. If not independent, the. the body size has more impact to movement

Hi David,

You would normally use the "x position" and "y position" to move your head side to side. However you need to separate the puppet from the background. Make the background separate and import it to the scene as a single element. Then make the head alone the puppet. Import the head and place it above the background. Now you will be able to control the head.

I hope this helps.
