Multiple Puppets in one file (best practices)

Hi all!
I currently have one CA puppet that I use as a template for a vast variety of other puppets.
The other puppets consist of the same character, but with different outfits, triggers, etc.
I previous had one file with this idea in mind where i had added around 40+ puppets.
I would eventually run into issues with lag and performance, but I am unsure whether it was my computer or the program.
I deleted some of the scenes and only had up to 5 scenes available, but still maintained the 40+ rigs within the file.
I now have a better rig with more ram and a new ssd.
My main question is, what is the best practice here for performance when it comes to a file that can contain many puppet files?
Im reworking my main template puppet so I am in a sense starting over, so i'd like to future proof this idea of multiple puppets.
Does CA slow down when you have multiple rigged puppets in one file? should i cut back on scenes only?
is having multiple rigged characters okay?
any help would be greatly appreciated
Ive attached a screenshot of the file I am talking about
Thank you!
