Newbie - First character creation - distortion problem

Created my first character (me 🙂 ).... Everything works as expected EXCEPT the character handle (see green circle in photo) is causing a FIXED position that distorts the face when it moves.  I've tried moving the handle... and the distortion point moves with it.  Deleting the handle doesn't appear to be an option.

Any assistance would be appreciated.
