Question

On the verge of quitting CH before my dreams could even take off. Help Needed. (If Possible)

I've been working on this puppet and several versions of it since the 1st of this month and now it's the 20th and I still have nothing, but problems. First the arms weren't moving properly, then I couldn't move the body. Then the eyes kept going every where. I have several different PSD's and AI's of the same character to try different things. I have also tried using the stock puppet and working off them still nothing. My current problem is that the head is NOT indpendent, but it's still floting around, on top of that the arm keeps wraping. I've already put Limb IK on it and moved the different draggable points around with no luck on gettting it to look right. If anyone can help with my disaster of a dream it will be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

Well that is one heck of a puppet you have there. I follow the approach that Alan mentioned. Take one pose of the puppet and get it working. CH by its nature is very complex and a missed tag, a wrong tag, entra unneeded handles, etc. can break the puppet. I have been puppeteering with CH for many months and still miss a behavior or a handle.

 

Don't give up. Simplify your puppet and then build on your little sucesses. Alan gave you some good advice.

    My suggestion is to post issues here on separate threads and tackle them one by one. For example, the head coming away from the body. A very useful thing to do is to share a screenshot of the rigging hierarchy with it expanded in relevant areas (eg, don't expand eyes for a head position problem, but do expand them if blinking not right etc).

     

    I often take a copy of a puppet, export it, import into a new project, then delete lots of not relevant stuff. If it starts working, use undo until it breaks again and hunt for extra tags in that area. Stray tags can be a real pain to find. Also i like getting one profile working first - then move on to the others.

     

    My guess on head is yiu do have it independent in one of the profiles.

     

    'You can also export your puppet and upload to google drive and share a link here. Others sometimes have a look as they have the time available. But i think yiu learn more reading the replies and doing it yourself.
