I have tried running it as admin but it still freezing as soon as I minimize or put ACA in the background. Is there anyway to fix this?

Try going into the Preferences (Edit > Preferences on Windows, Character > Preferences on macOS), click Live Output in the left sidebar, then make sure the "Disable Mercury Transmit output when application is in the background" option is unchecked. That way, when you have other software (OBS, etc.) frontmost, the puppet in the Character Animator scene can still respond to your facial movements.

How are you controlling the position of the puppet? Are you using the web cam? The other thread I recall might have been using a MIDI device to trigger playbacks. Maybe the webcam deactivates still. I will try to experiment later when I get the chance.

In the Camera and Microphone panel menu, there's an "Pause Camera and Microphone when Application in Background" option. Is that enabled? If so, that'd explain the problem, but if not this is fairly surprising.

What version of CH are you using? I think they fixed it in the latest release (2.1)

The workaround was to use the countdown timer before it starts recording to push into background - that would give you a few seconds to rearrange window depths etc. But if you brought it back to focus or change it some other way later, it would also stop recording.
