puppet is displayed as coloured blocks

Please help!

Animator crashed on me and now when I open my scene my puppet is a group of colored blocks (in both the puppet panel and scene panel)with the words background, left arm etc..

I've tried restarting a few times and also refreshing the scene but no change.

Anyone any ideas ?

I have a lot of trouble with the app crashing on my laptop (which is pretty new).
