Raster vs vector

I know it depends on raster resolution but which would be better for performance, a 2000 by 2000 photoshop puppet or an illustrator puppet. Is vector art pretty intensive to stream?

From a technical standpoint, I'm not sure. What I can tell you is that when I was working with Flash for an online application, an app was written to "flatten" the background elements to make it play faster. So it would seem that bitmap is better, but please don't quote me on that. I know that I personally prefer vector and I've had no problems with it.

Thank you for some insight. I just stayed with the default rasterisation of illustrator files. Close to being done I'll just flatten my art layers in illustrator as much as I can.

I don't think it will make much difference... (not 100% sure). I think CH will rasterize layers for you and cache those mesh images. I think what would impage performance more is the number of triggers, the number of dangles, etc. I use vector artwork so I can scale it with less jaggies.

 

But if you try it, do it on a copy of a puppet and if you try both, can you see any performance differences? Would love to collect data on that if you have any. E.g. drop both copies into a scene, enable both at the same time, then see how they respond side by side. Something like that.
