SCRATCH DISK CACHE

Will CH work better if I cache the files on an external disk?

I have a new iMac 27 inch 2020 with eight core processors, a 2 TB internal SSD drive, 128 ram, and a 16 GB graphics card.

I assume that whatever I choose in preferences in after effects will affect character animator since they are the same program, is that correct? Thank you to anybody who could clear this up for me it would be very appreciate it have a nice evening.
