Question

Walk Cycle Stops when I tag a face behavior

I have constructed a simple left-sided walking character and have put it together step by step - uainf Okaysamerai's tutorial (very good, by the way). The body is moveing perfectly but when I tag (1 or more) anything in the head, the walk-cycle is stopped. Remove the eye-brow tag  (the only tag - for example) and the walk cycle works again. I have also had occassions on tagging the mouth when moving to 'Record' mode the mouth vissemes don't appear on screens - it also stops the walk-cycle.

Anyone any ideas?

Screen print of layout attached.

Many thanks

That is bizarre! Hopefully Keiko Yamada can get you going. But it is so bizarre I was going to suggest holding ALT (or was it SHIFT - try both!!) and press the "Refresh" button at the bottom of the scene window. That flushes some internal caches. Very occasionally something goes wrong and that clears the problem. Adding eyebrows tags inside your independent Head causing walk to stop working is... different.

If you want to try and debug more, compare the Walk behavior Views and Handles sections  for the one that works and does not work. Walk behavior basically moves those handles around...

Oh, I assume you are using the Walk behavior? Or are you using Cycle Layers?

I figured it out. My neck drawing was attached to the body group rather than the head group. This seemed to confuse Charater Animator. I have now include the 'neck' within the 'Head' group rather than the Body group of drawings and put the Body group before the 'Head' in the illustrator document hierarchy. This has solved the problem- what a relief.

Thank you for your help and suggestions on this site - it all helps to improve our understanding of the program.

interesting. I normally make neck as part of the body so i suspect there is something else going on. But i also sometimes say "it works" and walk away. As long as it looks good and works to your satisfaction, that is the main thing. Glad you got it working!!
