Activation rip off

I have had Acrobat 8 on my computer meeting all mey needs for seeral years.  Recently it began demanding that I authorize, but then did not allow me to do so.  I reached out for help and was told that teh system no longer allowed acitvation for my version and my nly remedy was to buy a new product.  This seems to be rather a rip off
