charge my card on free trial

 I signed up for the 7-day free trial and entered my credit card details. However, as soon as I confirmed, my card was charged with a whole month payment . I immediately canceled the subscription, but I would like to know why the charge was made ? because it said 0 dollars before i sign my credit card and will i get a refund for it ?since I canceled within the free trial period.
