Question

I just purchased the All Apps plan, but an old Illustrator plan is still active.

I'm aware that the "early cancellation fee" is something that was in my Illustrator plan that I agreed to, but now that I've upgraded to the All Apps plan, I'm paying a larger monthly sum for many more apps (which obviously makes perfect sense), however Illustrator is included in this new plan, so naturally there is absolutely no reason for anyone to be forced to pay monthly for an old plan that contains the same app I get with the new plan anyway. And now in order to "save" the $20+/mo the Illustrator plan costs, I have to pay an early cancellation fee of $85 bucks in addition to the monthly fee for the All Apps package? Is this for real? Why the **** would anyone be forced/punished for switching to the more expensive app package, that literally contains the same app subscription they're trying to cancel? This doesn't make any practical sense. Am I basically royally screwed here regardless of what I do? Please advise. Thanks!

i'm assuming you have an individual subscription (or 2 individual subscriptions).

contact adobe support. they'll help you avoid the cancellation fee for ai.  there are 3 ways to contact adobe; chat, phone and twitter:

chat:
use a browser that allows popups and cookies
and click here, https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen
in the chat field (lower right), type AGENT
be patient, it can take quite a while to reach a human.

phone:
https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/phone.html

twitter:
tweet @AdobeCare

p.s. if you're contacted by anyone (via email or private message), it's much more likely to be a scammer than an adobe representative. ie, double check for an employee badge if contacted in the forums and look for an adobe.com domain in the email address if you click reply to an email. then check again and be very suspicious. any other method of contacting (or offering to contact you) is almost certainly a scam, https://community.adobe.com/t5/using-the-community-discussions/staying-safe-in-the-adobe-support-community/td-p/12919684/redirect_from_archived_page/true
