Membership and cancellation

If I have the monthly payment plan ($9.99 a month) and I cancell it after a couple of months, is my card charged for the remaining 10 months that make up the year?  In other words, by choosing the monthly plan, am I obligated to keep the plan for a year and if I cancel early, have to pay the remaining balance left for the year?
