Lots of competing companies make PDF viewers. And they will do whatever they can to get your business. It's called the free marketplace and it's not necessarily a scam. 

Soda is not an Adobe company. If you purchased a subscription to Acrobat DC, then you are still an Adobe customer until you cancel your subscription. (Don't do this before the last month, though, or there will be a cancellation fee.)

I would read this email very, very carefully to see what they're actually claiming. I suspect it's a misleading advertisement trying to get you to buy their product.
