Updating payment info

My credit card expired a while ago and I've tried updating my payment info dozens of times over the course of 3 months now, yet it still says that my payment info is out of date.  ????  In the past, I've completely deleted the software and started from scratch, but I don't want to do that, as I lose all my previous work.  This is very frustrating.
