Yearly Subscription Trap

I had like many others just subscribed for the trail version of Adobe Stock as I wanted to use a template to create something.

In the excitement I may have overlooked the fact that Trial = Trap of 1 year if you do not cancel it within one month.

I forgot and having checked my bank statement 2 months later I saw I had been charged twice and realised my mistake. Went on to cancel the subscription only to see a $200 cancellation fee. I am shocked to see that Adobe has resolved to trapping people in this yearly subscription model.

The Support Specialist on the chat has been at least been helpful cancel the subscription without cancellation fee after trying to offer me 3 months free. I appreciate the offer but a person who did not want to go past the trail has no use of 3 months or 12.

I hope Adobe communicates a bit more clearly about the cancellation charges. Having it in a wall of terms and conditions is not very forthright. https://www.adobe.com/in/legal/subscription-terms.html

I just wanted to bring this to people's attention, that's all and I recognise my mistake in this but I do not understand:

Why there is a need for a cancellation fee as its not like they need to restock the software or cover shipping charges.
Secondly, why is the trial not preceded by a monthly subscription as opposed to a yearly one where people can still cancel it if they forgot to do so before.

I look forward to be educated as to what am I missing here ?

i'm not sure what free trial for 30days is offered by adobe, but usually if you fail to cancel during the cancellation period (usually 2 weeks) your subscription starts.

Annual plans give you a 40% discount to the cost of subscribing month-to-month. If you take an annual plan but cancel early, the cancellation fee is more or less the difference between what it WOULD have cost you to subscribe month-to-month and what it would have cost you if you'd kept the annual plan.

Thanks for sharing this but this is not what you see when you are signing up.

When signing up, all you see is shown in below images. There is no option to choose between the annual or monthly plan at this stage.

While not wrong it certainly does not five the user any option to go on monthly plan.

More importantly, even if someone made the mistake of forgetting to cancel, they should not be punished to pay for the entire year or a cancelation fee for something that they would not use. It is not hardware that the value of the product now depreciates having bought or needs to be restocked.

While some may think I am upset, I just want some improvement for other customers of yours, who might end up in the same boat as me. At the end of the day, they may not be as lucky as me and might just move to a competitor.

I haven't seen these before; it might be country specific. Only some of the plans have multiple plans available. That is, most subscriptions are annual plans and you should have a choice between paying up front and paying in installments. Some plans, such as the All Apps plan, allow you to subscribe month-to-month at a higher cost, but there's no cancellation fee.

I don't work for Adobe. I just help out around some of the forums. The information I gave you about the cancellation fee is the best information I have.

I do know that Adobe is updating a lot of the sign-up screens to make it more obvious that cancelling after the trial ends and before the end of the subscription incurs a fee.
