Apps settings get reset after every update (Help needed)

Hi!

I'd appreciate some help on an issue I keep experiencing for years. The problem is that after every major update to Photoshop, Lightroom and Lightroom Classic, the settings (or should I say "preferences") in these apps get reset to their initial state. It means that after single update I have to manually restore all my settings to the desired state and I must say it takes quite some time to do it for all the apps I use. To take Lightroom Classic for example, it means that after every update I open the app and it looks like it was just freshly installed - all my develop presets, export presets, app settings, interface settings are gone, reset to initial state. It's extremely inconvenient and I'm wondering if I'm the only one experiencing such problems.

I would greatly appreciate some feedback from those who may know something about it, because I didn't manage to find a solution for this and at this point I'm just a bit desparate.

exactly correct.  disable auto-updates and when there's a major (not minor) update to an app, after clicking update, you'll see a panel giving you the option to remove the app's  preferences. unticking that will preserve your app's preferences.

I have had the same problem for several years even though I have changed computers twice since then and on my PC I still have this problem. I don't have the problem on my laptop and I have always disabled automatic updates and it still does them despite everything.

 

Have you fixed the problem?

when you're updating you have the option to reset preferences, or not.  you want to untick the option to remove your preferences.

    Dear kglad, I'd like to thank you for your answer. I have auto-updates turned on in Creative Cloud app, so it just updates the apps automatically, without prompting me. But anyway, where can I find this option to reset or not reset prefernces. Would you be able to attach a screenshot of how it looks? I have been using Creative Cloud for a few years already and honestly I don't recall seeing this option. Thank you.

    PS: I turned off the auto-updates, let's see if next time there will the option you mentioned.
