Is there any solution for old flas that won't open in Animate?

I have a lot of work flas that go back 10 years or more and when I try to open them with Animate, I get an error message. Of course there is nothing that defines what the error is. I've seen some things posted here and there about this but nothing definitive or how to truly resolve the problem.
