Lightroom shows Suspended in Task Manager... and more.

This will be lengthy:
Friday, January 9th 2026 I noticed that the Lightroom desktop app would not open. I have had Creative Cloud Desktop installed on my laptop (ASUS ZenBook) as well as Lightroom, Acrobat, Camera Raw, Photoshop for YEARS and always make sure the apps are up-to-date.

I checked my task manager and it says it is 'suspended', but each time I tried to end the task my computer would freeze and I had to perform hard resets - I did this several times unfortunately. I tried un-installing Lightroom then re-installing, but got the same issue.

Important to note here that the Photoshop appworks with no issues.

After the weekend in "shut down" mode, I powered up my laptop to work today and noticed that Acrobat was not recognized as a program and I was prompted to select another one to open a PDF - this did not happen on Friday.

I decided to un-install the entire creative cloud app and the apps mentioned above, shut down, and then reinstall. I even went to my C drive and wiped out program files and everything (I did this out of sheer frustration, maybe it was wrong but it certainly wasn't hurting anything).

I've just re-installed the CC app and it is already saying my installed apps are Acrobat, Lightroom, and Camera Raw (but not Photoshop, the only app that will work).

When I hover over the 3 ellipses to the right of Acrobat under "Installed Apps" and choose "product details" and try to open it from there, nothing happens.

The web versions will open and work, but I like working in the apps themselves.

I'm at my wits end here. Can anyone please help?

uninstall every cc app including preferences per https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-remove-app.html

then uninstall the cc desktop app, again using the correct uninstaller per https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html#sa_src=web-messaging

clean your computer of cc files per http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html

check for, and if available, update your os

if windows is your os, repair all ms visual c++ versions that can be repaired (use google if you don't know how to do this)

if windows is your os update your ms visual c++, if it can be updated (use google if you don't know how to do this)

restart your computer (don't skip this)

reinstall the cc desktop app using the "alternative download links" at the bottom of the page at https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/creative-cloud-desktop-app-download.html

use the desktop app to install your cc programs/trials>

if that fails, you probably have a corrupt user account. google your os and how to create a new one.

@kglad When trying to uninstall every cc app including preferences per the link you included (through cc, not my computer), I am not offered the ability to uninstall. Before I go any further I wanted to alert you to that.

did you change the install location in the cc desktop preferences between the time you installed the app(s) you're trying to remove and now?

if so, change the preferences so the cc desktop app can find the installed apps.

if not, you have bigger problems (which are still surmountable).  we might be able to skip the uninstall step for each app that can't be uninstalled.  but before skipping any steps, uninstall each app (and its preferences) that you are able to uninstall.  double check the install location of the uninstallable apps and check the cc desktop app preferences to make sure they match.
