Dear Adobe, 

 

The ratio of time I spend updating CC software versus the amount of time I spend actually using it has become untenable. To be completely frank, it's a major reason why I limit the number of Adobe products I purchase.

If there's a critical security issue, sure, go for it. Better safe than sorry and all that.

But if it's a new "feature" I didn't ask for (and will probably never use) or just interface eye candy, please Adobe, have mercy upon us mere mortals and limit such updates as much as possible.

The rarified universe of Adobe software engineers seems to have lost touch with users who are simply trying to make a living in these uncertain and troubled times.

    1. Use the Creative Cloud Desktop App to manage updates manually: You can choose when to install updates and even roll back to previous versions if needed.

    2. Turn off auto-updates for specific apps: This gives you more control over when and how updates are applied.

    Thanks for your reply, Tarun. I appreciate your time. I've used the CC Desktop App for many years. I'm familiar with how to manage updates. That said, I'll review the links you provided to see if I missed something.

     

    A little backstory might be helpful. I'm a longtime Adobe customer. For example, I bought my first version of Photoshop back in June of 1990, shortly after the initial release. I'm an ancient early adopter. A dinosaur.

     

    My career took off in 1991 when I was hired by the late (great) John McWade as lead illustrator for his groundbreaking magazine Before & After. I remember the day Adobe co-founder John Warnock walked up to John McWade at MacExpo and asked him to autograph a copy of the magazine. I was delighted (and blown away).

     

    Maybe what I'm trying to drill into with this thread is more fundamental. Maybe even existential. Every graphic designer I know is frightened and unsure. Adobe software has become bloated, fundamentally unintuitive, and crazy expensive. Maybe this thread could serve as a broader conduit for transparency, discussion, and solutions.
