Why was I just kicked out of Creative Cloud?

In the middle of working on a file that had quite a bit of input, I was kicked out of Creative Cloud, losing all of the work I had just done.  My options when it closed was to save the work I had done on the template I was using, which wasn't an option unless I could change the file name or let it go. Not good options!!! Why did this happen, and is there any way to prevent this in the future. I think that Creative Cloud was automatically updated, which it isn't supposed to do. Yeah, I'm a little peaved right now.

which app?

and no matter which and no matter if it's an adobe app or not, you should get in the habit of saving your non-trivial work frequently with an increasing version number appended to the file name.  periodically, you should close and open the latest version to confirm it's not corrupted.  then you can delete previous versions.

eg, if you were working in photoshop:

project1_v001.psd, project1_v002.psd etc
