Adding a text paragraph to a new page in Portfolio

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked before but I'm at that "frustrated stage" where I can't add a text paragraph to a new page in Portfolio. It shows the "page container" with all the icons on the bottom underneath the "start building your page" heading. I click on the "text" icon - a text window appears but when I click on the "text" drop down icon the window vanishes?!?! 

Any hints to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
