Question

Adobe CEF Helpers

I have recently purchased an M1 based Macbook Air 8gb. I installed creative cloud, and after a few days, I have noticed my memory pressure was constantly sitting at either orange or red, and at times my laptop slows down so much I have to restart it. After going into activity monitor, I saw Adobe CEF Helper (GPU) and Adobe CEF Helper (Renderer) constantly taking up 200-400 mb of RAM each. That is quite a lot considering the amount of other applications I have open. None of them are taking up any CPU though (0.1% each), and each time I force quit it, it reappears, but taking up even more memory (usually 1.2gb each), and then going back down to around 250mb.

Hi there,

We're sorry to hear about your difficulties with Adobe CEF helper processes using excessive RAM. Would you mind telling us which version of the operating system you are using? Since when have you been seeing this issue? Make sure your OS is updated.

Please try the following steps mentioned below:-

  1. Open Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop
  2. Click on your Profile Picture.
  3. Click on Preferences
  4. Under General, toggle the switch against Launch Creative Cloud at login to the Off position.
  5. Click Done.
  6.  Restart the computer.

For more information on what the background processes are used for, see https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/adobe-background-processes.html

Let us know if that helps.

Regards,

Tarun

I am currently running macOS Monterey version 12.2.1 (21D62), and I have been seeing this issue ever since I downloaded Creative Cloud and Adobe apps on my device, which would be since 23 Feb. I still have to try the solution you have suggested though.
