Creative Cloud closes just after launch

I have no problem launching and using Ps and Ai on my desktop, but that actual Creative Cloud app, after I click the exe file, will briefly open with a message that there is an update to CC  and then closes down. 

I restarted my PC and made sure that the app is set to start when I start up my desktop. 

Can anyone suggest what may be happening? This morning I saved some Gradient presets in Ps and once I closed down that app and restarted my desktop, all those presets are now gone. A wasted 5 hours of work down the drain. 

Very frustrated, can anyone help?
