File syncing and Apple's File Provider API
Hi.
As the organisation I work for is largely Windows-based, we use Sharepoint for most cloud storage. I've been pushing to move our department's files to Creative Cloud for a while, based mostly on OneDrive's general instability on MacOS, but it looks like it's now a matter of urgency.
You may have read about the issues that Microsoft's latest update to the Mac OneDrive client has caused: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-onedrive-blog/inside-the-new-files-on-demand-experience-on-macos/ba-p/3058922. Much of the blame has been put on Apple's requirement that syncing software now uses their File Provider API, so I'm hoping to find out whether future versions of Creative Cloud Files will follow (or will be forced to follow) in OneDrive's footsteps.
My setup (until the OneDrive update) had the OneDrive/Sharepoint folder an external HD, with 'Files on Demand' switch off, so I had local copies of all my files. With the update, OneDrive moved all these files into a new hidden folder on the external HD, created a new OneDrive folder in the 'CloudStorage' folder of my user library, and put online-only versions of all the files in there. You can imagine the problems that has caused! On top of that, OneDrive doesn't allow you to turn 'Files on Demand' off!
So, is it likely that future versions of Creative Cloud will do the same? Or will it still allow me to sync my files to an external HD, and keep local copies of everything?
