I have an iMac M1 with OS 26.4.1, back in 2025 I was able to install my .ccx files.  Now when I tried to install a .ccx file that was an update to a current plug-in nothing happens when I “dbl” click the .ccx file.

My .ccx file is in my download folder, I have the latest version of CC - 6.9.0.618 and PS 27.6.  I check the “Unified…..app” the version is 8.5.0.13.

Permissions for CC and PS are all inclusive.

I need help in resolving this issue, anyone have any ideas what I need to do

thanks in advance for your help

Michael

Methods to Install CCX Files in Photoshop

    Automatic Installation

The simplest way to install CCX files is through the Creative Cloud app. Follow these steps:

    1. Download the CCX File: Obtain the .ccx file from the source where you purchased or downloaded the plugin.
    2. Double-Click the File: This action will automatically open the Creative Cloud app and initiate the installation process.

    3. Confirmation: Once the installation is complete, you will receive a confirmation in the Creative Cloud app under the Stock & Marketplace > Plugins section.

    4. Restart Photoshop: If necessary, restart Photoshop to ensure the plugin loads properly.

    Manual Installation

If the automatic method does not work, you can install the CCX file manually:

    1. Extract the CCX File: Use an unarchiving program (like WinRAR or 7ZIP) to extract the contents of the .ccx file.
    2. Locate the Plugins Folder: Navigate to the Photoshop installation directory, typically found at:

      • Windows: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop [Version]\Plug-ins
      • macOS: `/Applications/Adobe Photoshop [Version]/Plug-ins
    3. Copy the Extracted Files: Move the extracted folder into the Plugins directory.

    4. Restart Photoshop: Relaunch Photoshop to see the new plugin in the Plugins menu.

    Troubleshooting Common Issues

    • Plugin Not Recognized: Ensure the CCX file is on the same drive as Photoshop and the Creative Cloud app.
    • Compatibility Issues: Check that your version of Photoshop meets the plugin's requirements.
    • Security Warnings: On macOS, you may need to allow the installation in System Preferences under Security & Privacy.

By following these methods, you can successfully install CCX files and enhance your Photoshop experience with new plugins.

Unfortunately coping the .ccx file and pasting it in the Application/PS 2026/Plug-ins folder doesn’t work since all the plug-ins have a .plugin attached not a .ccx  thought you would like to know

I’m not understanding “all the plug-ins have a .plugin attached not a .ccx”

The procedure I found was for CCX; when did .PLUGIN come in?

Name your plugin, we will have to start over.

    Larry,

the last part of your inital response was to “…

    1. Copy the Extracted Files: Move the extracted folder into the Plugins directory.

the extracted file as you noted is a .ccx file; however, all the files in the application/adobe Photoshop 2026/plug-ins folder have an extension of “.plugin”

putting a file with the extension.ccx does not work, only .plugin filrs ate recognized by PS

this is what i was trying to convey, the last part of your response doesn’t work for .ccx files ONLY “.plugin” file

hope this is helps you understand my previous comment
