No "PLace and Link" only Place

I am trying to link WORD documents and previously used Ctrl-D (its been 3 years) and that would link the xls, doc, any editable document; its not now. I read the help page and its said to use "place and link" in the edit drop down; there is no "place and link' in the edit menu - what am I doing wrong. I've placed the documents, but they're not linking. Please Help!

    When you post a question you always need to tell the program you are using
    There are MANY programs in a full subscription, plus other non-subscription programs
    Please post the exact name of the Adobe program you use so a Moderator may move this message to that forum
