Question

The CC Library link system is absolutely atrocious.

Hello all.

We have a job in InDesign, every month. A simple catalog with groceries. The items are all displayed in the same way, inside a square, with price, a qr code, image of the item, item number, manufacturer logo, etc.

Usually, we do all this by hand, but now we want to use some kind of dedicated CMS to help with that. CC libraries was a no-brainer, naturally. You can put the entire contents of the square into there as one object – so, ideally, once that's all done, with about 10,000 items, we could just drag and drop the entire catalogue and take it from 2-3 days of work to 2-3 hours.

Now, it is best practise to have all the product images, manufacturer logos, and qr codes in seperate libraries AS WELL, so you can change these originals and it will update in all the corresponding "full sets". All product images, QR codes and Vendor logos are already in our cloud in their respective libraries.
And here's where the trouble begins. I have looots of old catalogues that i could go through, upload or relink the assets to our cc libraries, and then create the full set library from within InDesign.

But especially the relink feature is really something special. First of all, there's zero drag and drop functionality between the cc library window and InDesign's links window. If I right-click a link, and select "relink from cc library", it does not let me search in the library window. If I search the item beforehand, jokes on me still, the window will reset upon trying to relink, WITH THE WORD STILL IN THE NOW DEFUNCT SEARCH BAR, leaving me no choice but to scroll through libraries as big as 10,000 items. And the best part is, Filenames will ONLY be revealed once i hover over the item. So: Scroll a bit, look where I am in the alphabet or numbers, scroll again, check again.... outrageous. Selecting multiple links in the link window, say QR codes, and then trying to re-link will of course not do anything (yes they all are in the same library). My next instinct would be to delete/move all the links and then see if it automatically searches through the cc library like it does with missing local links. Buuuut I don't think so.

I am completely flabbergasted by how this is designed. So many seemingly simple things bulk up to make it a truly dreadful experience. It took me 5 minutes to even find the tiny relink button at the bottom of the library window the first time! I know theres no solution at the moment (at least I think) but it would be amazeballs if Adobe allocated some budget here instead of spending 20 billion on a canva clone (jk)
