Question

Why does Creative Cloud sometimes take a long time to update an Application

I have noticed lately that some updates of Applications (mainly Premiere Pro actually) can take much longer to update to the latest version. It often updates to around 85% complete then just sits there.

There is over 1.2TB on my CPU SSD Free.

I then get a message pop up on screen that says ‘We are aware this is taking longer than normal. We are working on it’ (or similar message)

After that message the rest suddenly downloads and it is OK.

Question is why is this happening at all?. I have 1Gig Fibre and my Home network is fast - so where is the bottleneck?.

Does Adobe monitor Application ‘time to update’ performance?.

The issue is definitely with Adobe Servers. Photoshop, Premiere and AfterEffects are taking particularly longer to download or update recently. Wouldn’t be surprised if Adobe are currently migrating or updating their servers.

One issue to note additionally I’ve noticed Creative Cloud app on the Mac, would timeout on an update or fresh install, then corrupt every app it hung the update on. Turns out the Mac switched off in Privacy & Security > App Management which prevented Creative Cloud from altering/managing existing apps. Must have happened after the Creative Cloud App itself updated. Switching this back on didn’t improve the download speed, but did allow the installation to complete successfully.

Worth checking if you are a Mac user experiencing the same hung incomplete update issue.

    • Heavy Internet traffic.
    • Abrupt changes to connection speed.
    • Background processes on your computer that are competing for resources.

    Updates occur in 3 phases:

    • Downloading to hard drive,
    • Unpacking files & folders,
    • Moving unpacked contents to other folders on your hard drive.

For best results, perform updates during off-peak hours. Disable non-essential apps & services while installing updates.

    Hope that helps.
