Win11: Creative cloud.exe causes H&R Block Tax Prep software to fail with various file access errors
I use both Lr and LrC and as part of their installations, Adobe installed Creative Cloud.exe. and set it up to run when Windows 11 starts up, so it is always running in the background.
During tax prep season (now) I use HR Block tax prep software, including H&R Block Business 2023. When I started this program I was getting frequent crashes, sometimes with a diagnostic, sometimes no diagnostic. In the latter case the program either disappeared or just stopped running requiring that I kill it with Task Manager. Sometimes the diagnostic said the file containing a saved return was corrupted. It is noteworthy however, that the failures took many forms and occurred in different places in the program but didn't take long to start happening once you opened the program.
I then engaged in a very tedious debugging project, starting with a "clean boot", which requires disabling all services and disabling all startup programs. Then I reintroduced them by using either a one-at-a-time process, or a binary splitting search process. By doing this I determined that it was the Creative Cloud.exe startup program that was causing the errors. If it was disabled then no problems, but if it was enabled the tax prep program would not take long to fail.
So disabling Creative Cloud.exe (using the Startup tab in Task Manager) now allows me to run the tax prep software.
I don't know specifically what Creative Cloud.exe does that would cause it to interfere with other programs, but there is clearly a bug in either Creative Cloud.exe or in H&R Block Business 2023 - one of them is doing something that a windows program should not do.
I also don't know what the effect of having disabled Creative Cloud.exe will be. Does anyone know the answer?
P.S. Based on the limited set of topics that I was forced to choose from, I may have posted this in the wrong community. If so, please tell me where to repost it.
